As a family business with a strong reputation across the Netherlands, Den Eelder is known for its delicious, traditionally made dairy products. What makes Den Eelder unique is that everything happens under one roof – from caring for the cows to packaging the yogurt. Because only happy, healthy cows can produce the very best milk. That’s why animal welfare and quality were the top priorities when building the new barn.
A smart ventilation concept for a wide barn
When constructing Den Eelder’s new barn, one clear challenge emerged: how do you ensure a healthy indoor climate in a barn 70 meters wide? In barns this wide, air tends to stagnate quickly – increasing the risk of heat stress and poor air quality.
The solution: a thoughtfully designed ventilation concept with 360° side ventilation and fans controlled by a smart climate computer. This system continuously adjusts temperature, humidity, and airflow based on the cows’ needs – day and night.
To prevent stagnant air, adjustable curtains were installed on both sides of the ridge to allow both air intlet and outlet. The front and rear gables also feature adjustable openings, ensuring complete air circulation from any wind direction. Thanks to this system, there are no dead zones, and cross ventilation works optimally.
The result? Fresh air, less stress, and healthier cows – leading to higher and better-quality milk production.
Our Systems
After years of successful collaboration, Den Eelder turned to us again for this new project.
Together, we selected a combination of different side ventilation systems, each with its own benefits. We explain each system in detail below:
Folding System
For the side walls of the new barn, the Folding System was chosen. The curtain of the system folds from the bottom to the top, preventing the accumulation of dust, straw, or snow. The heavy storm tubes make the system resistant to strong winds and extreme weather conditions. This makes the Folding System particularly suitable for large openings and intensive use – especially in combination with a climate computer.

Middle Tube System
At the front of the barn, passage had to remain clear for vehicles and machines, while the rear needed to stay accessible for manure scrapers and the cows' passage to pasture. At the same time, natural ventilation was crucial.
The Middle Tube System offered a clever 2-in-1 solution: adjustable side ventilation that allows natural airflow without obstructing access. This system also prevents dead ventilation zones, ensuring even air distribution throughout the barn.
Poly System
Ventilation doesn’t stop at the sides. Along the entire 120-meter length of the roof ridge, a Poly System was installed. This supports cross ventilation and contributes to a healthy barn climate. At the same time, integrated bird netting keeps unwanted birds out.
The new barn of Den Eelder - built with efficiency, animal welfare and the future in mind.
